The last time I was in my cow-forsaken cowtown's high school, year 6 BA. |
I've heard the name before, but only listened to this Olivia Rodrigo song after it was mentioned on a podcast. Lyrics below. I have also been reminded that hope ur ok's sentiment is similar to "You Were Cool" by John Darnielle / The Mountain Goats (someone I did know - he actually once supported my advocacy work; EK and I saw him live at a dive bar here in Tucson).
By the way - in what I assume was his last interview, Nobel Laureate Danny Kahneman said he went to a Taylor Swift concert and liked it. He specifically mentioned how good the lyrics were.
I knew a boy once, when I was smallA tow-head blonde, with eyes of saltHe played the drum in the marching bandHis parents cared more about the BibleThan being good to their own childHe wore long sleeves 'cause of his dad
And somehow, we fell out of touchHope he took his bad deal and made a royal flushDon't know if I'll see you again somedayBut if you're out there, I hope that you're okay
My middle school friend grew up aloneShe raised her brothers on her ownHer parents hated who she lovedShe couldn't wait to go to collegeShe was tired 'cause she was broughtInto a world where family was merely blood
Does she know how proud I am she was createdWith the courage to unlearn all of their hatredWe don't talk much but I just gotta say"I miss you, and I hope that you're okay"
Address the letters, to the holes in my butterfly wingsNothing's forever, nothing is as good as it seemsAnd when the clouds are ironed outAnd the monsters creep into your houseAnd every door is hard to close
Well, I hope you know how proud I am you were createdWith the courage to unlearn all of their hatredGod, I hope that you're happier today'Cause I love you, and I hope that you're okay
