Give Yourself a Raise, Some Laughs, and Some Sanity in the New Year

1. If you come across something on sale that you use regularly and is not perishable, buy a bunch. (Advice originally from Andrew Tobias.) The local Whole Foods had Field Roast's slices (above, one of the few plant-based meats that Anne really likes) on "Last Chance" for $1.52. We bought it all and froze it.

We also use Camel Camel Camel to see the price history of something on Amazon, and to set price alerts. When something we use or are looking for "goes on sale," we get a notice, and can swoop in and get it for cheaper.

If you get a pre-paid credit or debit card (we got one from a legal settlement) use it to reload your Amazon gift card balance.

2. I know I plug him all the time, but subscribe to SMBC. He is so funny and so insightful that I would be very jealous if I hadn't achieved enlightenment. 😇😉

If you want actual facts, rather than lies, exaggerations, and misrepresentation, please subscribe to Hannah Ritchie

If you'd like to learn more about how people can work together, consider checking out Non-Zero Sum Games, by our friend and award-winning filmmaker Auckland James.

3. Log off from the news. We all have a negativity bias (it was evolutionarily advantageous) but we can structure our life such that we aren't exposed as much. (More on this later this month.)

Finally, consider posting less, especially things that you consider "right" or "important" but are not clearly and constructively actionable. No one needs to hear that a politician is bad, or that temperatures are up, or that the rich got richer.

Make a real difference by being differentBring people joy, rather than feeding the doom and gloom.
