When was the last time you came across an anti-red-meat message? (Here is a depressing example I came across after I drafted this post.)
For us at One Step for Animals, the end of the year is also a moment to reflect on how much suffering still exists – and how much progress is possible with your help.
Previously, we've told you about One Step's matching grant. What you might not have noticed is that it is finite each year:
Every $10,000 raised in 2025 unlocks an additional $15,000 for chickens – up to a total match of $150,000.
Last year, we left matching funds on the table, money that could have directly helped chickens but went unused.
Right now in 2025, chickens will only receive half of the funds available to them – because that is all we have raised so far.
Now we know there are many, many important causes that desperately need our support.
After over three decades of work, we still find it difficult to convey just how extreme the suffering of chickens truly is. We don't want to bombard you with graphic pictures, but as animal scientist John Webster recognized, the modern chicken industry is “in both magnitude and severity, the single most severe, systematic example of man’s inhumanity to another sentient animal.”
If you can, please consider making a donation today to help unlock the matching funds that could help chickens.
With your support and its match, we could do much more.
If you can, click here to speak out against man’s inhumanity to chickens.
