Grace, Nuclear Near-Misses, and Wages

Song: Midnight Oil "Read About It"

1. President Obama after the Supreme Court's Obergefell decision mandating equal marriage nationwide (as quoted in Grace):

"The nature of injustice is that we may not always see it in our own times. The generations that wrote and ratified the bill of rights and the 14th amendment did not presume to know the extent of freedom in all its dimensions, and so they entrusted to future generations a charter protecting the right of all persons to enjoy liberty as we learn its meaning... Indeed, and interpreting the equal protection clause, the court has recognized that new insights and social understandings can reveal unjustified inequality within our most fundamental institutions that once passed unknownst and unchallenged."

2. Certain effective altruists say that this century - the century they just happen to live in - is the most important century for humanity. My answer. And those are just the ones we know.

3. Finally, I wonder what happened in 1980 to cause this change. Hmmmm:
