Yes, I am talking to *you* (Plus: Owl!)

Two falls play big roles in Losing My Religions. Since then, two significantly-younger-than-me friends (who not only read Losing but are in the book) had serious falls. One of them work up in the ambulance.

Also since the book came out, two people with whom I have one degree of separation fell and died

So yeah - I am talking to you to take the risk of falls seriously. Modify your life to minimize the risk of falls and minimize the potential harm from falls.

PS: From Bryan Walsh at Vox:

Casper, a great horned owl at British Columbia’s Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, has become a one-bird foster system. Over 26 years, she has helped raise more than 500 rescued owlets. Because Casper can’t be released herself after old trap injuries, she teaches the babies what they’ll need outside rehab: flying, hunting, and, crucially, not treating humans like DoorDash with thumbs. The current class includes four owlets, all about six to seven weeks old, who learn by watching and mimicking her. It’s a useful reminder that wildlife rehab is not just bandages and baby bottles; sometimes, it’s about finding the right surrogate parent.
