The Decemberists - 12/17/12
The Decemberists' song "12/17/12" (lyrics) refers to President Obama's national address in reaction to the Newtown school shootings. The song was written by Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy after watching the speech. The song's title date, 12/17/12, is three days after the Sandy Hook school shooting.
The song contrasts the horrific incident and Meloy's own domestic bliss. Meloy said he was hit by a sense of helplessness, but also the message of "Hold your family close." "There is an incredible feeling of helplessness when you see things like this, but we feel an intimate desire to do something."
Tim Urban: "Saying you’re purely pro-life or purely pro-choice are both inane."
How does anyone think they should be able to tell anyone they must give birth? It doesn't matter what I think or feel - it just isn't my business.
The label "pro-life" is one of the greatest cons of all time. Mike Pence showed this recently: "Former Vice President Mike Pence said abortion should be banned when a pregnancy is not viable."
Not viable means can't live. No "life."
That is the other side.
It is all about controlling women and "punishing" women for having sex for any reason other than reproduction. (As discussed at much greater length in Losing My Religions.)
And, of course, if any conservative gave even the tiniest shit about "life," they wouldn't worship their big metal penises that have actually been used to kill countless children.
