Being Right Is Wrong

Tears for Fears - Sowing the Seeds of Love

I don't expect to change anyone's mind.

A simple question: When you say "Go Vegan!" what do you expect to actually happen?

I know no one reading this blog acts this way (except those that hate-read it) so there is probably no reason to point this out. But of course, vegans have been screaming "Go Vegan!" for decades, and more animals are factory-farmed today than ever. And at least in the United States, vegans are reviled

There is a joke: "How can you tell which person in a room is vegan? They'll tell you."

It is funny 'cuz it's not funny.

With extreme temperatures in the news, many vegans are basically just saying "Go Vegan!" That is their answer to anything - hair loss, being fired, wars, getting divorced, losing a loved one.

I was once told I deserve Crohn's disease because I'm not vegan. (I had gone vegan years before I developed Crohn's.) I was told to not have the heart surgery that saved my life, but instead just Go Vegan!  (I had been vegan - and run thousands of miles - for decades before I needed the surgery.)

Yeah, it sucks for vegans who want to be friendly and pragmatic. But it is reality. IMO, we need to face facts. It is why I'm not vegan. It is why argue for the end of veganism in Losing My Religions. It is why I noted decades ago:

It is not enough to be a righteous vegan, or even a dedicated, knowledgeable vegan advocate. The animals don’t need us to be right, they need us to be effective. In other words, we don’t want to simply win an argument with a meat eater, we want to open people’s hearts and minds to a more compassionate lifestyle.
