Big News: Book Draft Complete. Plus: Sneak Peak!

Thanks so much to everyone who has encouraged and supported me, and to those who have provided me with so many stories!

I hope to start trying to find an agent Tuesday morning.

The first place I'm thinking of submitting requires draft Book Flap Summary and Author Bio. So here are the current drafts:

Matt was a midwestern, small-town, white Christian when his life met with a number of unlikely (and often unwelcome) twists that took him from far from his obedient, celibate, omnivorous roots. Part memoir, part travelog, along with essays, tips, and unpopular opinions, Losing My Religions takes you on a global journey to true love, crushing betrayals, and near-death and near-marriage experiences.

Civil disobedience, career acclaim, chronic pain, consciousness (the hard problem of), disability and suicide ideation, drugs, effective (?) altruism, Green Party (hatred of), health (mental and physical), more drugs, sex (unexpected!) and abortion and infanticide, Sportsball!, and Trader Joe’s are just a few of the issues and topics he deals with over the course of five decades, covered here in just 31 days.

In the pages of Losing My Religions, you get to live May 2022 with him, trekking across Europe and the Southwestern United States as the story tells how he evolved into a Level-6 atheist, father of a non-binary child, a hated and hunted former vegan, and survivor of many accidents and illnesses that haven’t killed him, yet. Along the way, he discovers three tips he wants everyone to know, along with the first key to happiness (no joke), and many controversial but totally correct opinions.

He arrives home still a cranky old man who should never have been born, broken from lung to heart to neck to nose (oh, his poor nose). But traveling with his soulmate for the first time in over three years shows it is still possible to be “so happy it’s scary” while wearing clothes.

(Trigger warning: if you don’t like parentheticals or swearing, this sure as shit is not the book for you [no joke].)

About the Author

Matt is the author, co-author, secondary-author, ghost-author, and non-author of many articles, speeches, book chapters, and even entire books! The most recent of these is his blockbuster bestseller* The Accidental Activist: Stories, Speeches, Articles, and Interviews (which on Amazon is now coming up as being by his wife Anne Green. So it goes.). Currently, he is President of One Step for Animals; previously, he was shitcanned from more nonprofits than there is room to list here (although there’s still time for more! Looking at you, Open Philanthropy Project!). Before Matt’s unfortunate encounter with activism, he was an aerospace engineer who wanted to work with his beloved planes, or for NASA (to impress Carl Sagan).

His hobbies include photography, almost dying, and                    (Hey! This is a family-friendly book flap! -ed). He lives in Tucson with Anne, along with no dogs, no cats, and no African tortoises, although he cares for all of these via friends and family.

Thought I was kidding, didn't you? Anne really is listed as the author.
